The Farnese Bull

The Farnese Bull. It is thought to have been created by Apollonius Of Tralles and his brother Tauriscus in the 2nd century BCE, and depicts Zethus and Amphion tying their mother, Dirce, to a bull to be dragged to her death.

Excavated in 1545, it was added to the collection of Pope Paull III at Palazzo Farnese. It has since been moved from Rome to Naples, where it currently resides.

It is carved from one large block of marble, and weighs almost 22 tons!
